The Keely Home
Bay St. Louis, Mississippi
Weekend of March 11, 2005; July-August, 2006
In Memory of Bonita Lee Keely
March 25, 1967 – December 13, 2006
Bonita Keely was an extraordinary woman. First diagnosed with Stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer in 2003, Bonita defied all the odds by living years beyond medical expectations. And in the final year and a half of her life, Bonita also battled and conquered another “small” obstacle in her life – Hurricane Katrina, which left the Keely’s living with eight feet of water flooding their home.
The New York Says Thank You Foundation brought 21 people to sheetrock her home over the weekend of March 11, 2005, and contractors completed her home over the summer of 2006, while Bonita was away in Texas receiving treatment. Bonita refused to leave this earth until she knew her two young daughters and husband were taken care of. Her will to live and total determination to see her family back in their rebuilt home inspired all those around her and proved far stronger than the cancer spreading through her body.
Thanks to the help of scores of volunteers from around the country, Bonita was able to pass away peacefully in the company of family in her newly rebuilt and beautiful home on December 13, 2006.
